CLUMBER SPANIEL x ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL HYBRIDS
DESIGNER DOGS....Springer`s & Clumbers are of course both WONDERFUL spaniels, they fill our days with sunshine and laughter, they are very loyal and extremely affectionate dogs and their silly fun personalities keep us coming back for more. Both breeds of the Spaniel family are notorious for flushing your bird of choice and make wonderful companions for hunting and pleasure.
You may wonder why we have decided to mix the 2 spaniel breeds to produce this
wonderful new hybrid.
After MUCH thought.. the pros and cons of it... the pros won out hands down!
What you get is~
*Is a fun loving, absolutely ADORABLE, goofy, big boned love bug!
*A GORGEOUS Spaniel that can still do what it was originally bred to do.
*A BEAUTIFUL loving, loyal & affectionate companion that LOVES to cuddle and is always up for a game of ball with the kids, fishing and camping trips, jogs in the park etc.
*A Clumber is 17-20 inches tall and 55-85 lbs, Springer's are 19-20 inches tall 40 to 65 so our Hybrids are still a medium size dog, easily taken along on family outings. We predict most of our pups to range from 45 to 55 pounds .
*Finding a pure bred Clumber? In the United States, only about 200 new Clumber Spaniel puppies are registered each year. (Compare that to over 60,000 new Golden Retriever puppies per year!)
*Despite a Clumber Spaniels easy going nature, they are not pushovers to raise and train. Most Clumber Spaniels are extremely stubborn. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say, a Springer on the other hand is generally extremely willing to learn and obey!
*Clumber Spaniels shed a LOT, Springer's shed very minimal in comparison.
*Clumbers are known to SLOBBER & DROOL and Springer's dont at all! :) {NOTE} MY Clumbers DO NOT drool! :~)
*By combining the two gene pools together you eliminate many of the inherited health defects prone to one specific breed.
*By combining the super duper lazy Spaniel ~the Clumber ~ and the more active breed the Springer ~ you get a very nice combination!!!!
*A hybrid ~ half Clumber half Springer at a fraction of the price of a purebred Clumber Spaniel, while maintaing the wonderful qualities of both breeds! Our hybrid pups tend to take on the markings of a Springer but have the massiveness and substance of a Clumber with the short legs and longer body. ADORABLE ! :) ! :) !
We could go on and on and on with the many reasons why we have decided to mix our two favorite breeds!!! :)
The mild-mannered, Clumber Spaniel sometimes puts on aristocratic airs, yet he also plays the clown, greeting people with SOCKS, TOYS, PANTS & WHAT HAVE YOU stuffed into his mouth and his entire rear end wagging. Springers are also mild mannered & class clowns.
Clumber Adults spend much of their time lying around and looking sleepy, but this massive dog needs regular exercise to stay fit. Springers are also content to lay around and be lazy but also need regular excerize to keep the mind and body healthy.
Outdoors the Clumber comes alive and moves with great determination -- he has been called "a great bustling creature." Springers LOVE the great outdoors and what ever adventure awaits them!
Fetching and ball playing are good sources of exercise for both Spaniel types , although too much twisting and jumping could injure a disk in the Clumbers long back.
Most Clumber Spaniels are friendly with strangers and other animals. This is not a guard dog.
Springers would go home with a complete stranger with his tail just a waggin the whole way although in the home BOTH BREEDS are very alert and eager to alert the family of intruders.
Clumbers are stubborn, they do how ever respond to persuasive, persistent, motivational obedience training, especially if it includes food. He resists harshness or force by refusing to move.
Springers normally are far from stubborn & are very responsive to positive training.
Clumbers have a mischievous streak, but because of his easygoing approach to life, he is seldom a problem even when he doesn't obey very quickly."
Springers are usually very straight forward creatures, happy go lucky and go with the flow type of dog!
We take great pride in our Clumber/Springer Cross creation DRAGON and we would love to introduce you to him! :~)
November 5th 2006 I can still remember the day like it was yesterday, anxiously awaiting the birth of our first litter of Spaniel hybrid puppies, the first baby was born and I squealed with joy, I yelled for the entire family to come quickly, "He’s a tri-color, and just LOOK at the size of those eyebrows!." I was not only amazed that he was a tri but at the size and amount of tan coloring. Genetically speaking I thought it would be impossible to get tri-colors, so you can imagine my excitement at this point.. Right there and then I fell MADLY inlove with this little boy and new he wasn’t going any were, I had planned on keeping a puppy any how so I would know exactly what my hybrids were going to be like as adults. But I KNEW he was the one I would keep before the others were even born! :~)
Dragon my sweet Dragon, has stolen my heart! He is one of those dogs you hope to duplicate over and over again as he is simply just that perfect!
We had him neutered at 8 months of age as I figured, what would I breed him too, and why would I breed him ??? when it was his crossing that made him so special to begin with, a pure bred AKC Clumber to a pure bred AKC Springer. My only guess as to how the tan points come out in our hybrid puppies is as history goes it is thought the Clumber Spaniel originated from a Bassett Hound and a St.Bernard ~ hence the tan points way back there in the gene pool somewhere.
When people meet Dragon they comment on how mature he acts for his age, at one year old I had a fellow that insisted he wanted to purchase Dragon instead of one of our puppies because he couldnt get over how mellow he was for a one year old, my comment was I wouldn’t sell Dragon for a million bucks. Dragon is not only sweet and calm he is very non aggressive, he looks at every dog/puppy as his equal. He is so gentle and forgiving he allows the pups to literally hang off of his huge long ears and drags them through the house, never a scowl or whimper ALMOST like it is his job to entertain the puppies.... Of course I get after the pups as Dragon never will.
Dragon also has a mind of his own, he gets his Springer mothers ability to jump over very high objects SUCH as fences, so he comes and goes as he pleases the little stinker, he never wanders he just isn’t going to let a fence tell him what to do! which is the stubborn Clumber side to him :) He also get’s his mothers joyful happy go lucky nature. From his father he gets his good looks, sweet nature & keen sense of judgment Clumbers are notorious for being a bit aloof with Strangers until they get to know them then you cant keep them away. They also seem to pick up on vibes, as Dragon often CLICKS instantly with some visitors and takes a bit to warm up to others the only way I can justify that is he feels an instant connection with some people and not others. Much like the Clumber breed in whole. Dragon is defiantly ONE OF A KIND and one of the sweetest most gentle dogs we have ever owned, he is very loving & compassionate with children and young puppies.
p.s. you will rarely see Dragon with out a toy or 2 or 3 toys crammed in his mouth, he got his mothers natural retrieving instincts and his fathers natural instinct of carrying around something in his mouth 24/7..
You can NOT go wrong with this cross they are exceptional & our new puppy parents LOVE them!!!!!!
